I’ve never liked Super Mario Bros 1. There has always been something…off on that game. I’ve come to realise that the problem is that the enormous amount of inertia on the main character and the levels where you have to run fast and precisely don’t mix well for me.
On the other hand, there’s Terry’s Big Adventure. On this game you also have lots of inertia, but the levels are not as frantic, meaning that you actually have time to investigate the next jump you need to do, not needing to learn the levels by heart to proceed. The graphics are more colourful, the music is nicer (it’s even an Allister Brimble tune!) and you have a cool yo-yo to smash your enemies with. But most importantly, the level design actually suits the amount of inertia, making Terry’s Big Adventure the game Super Mario Bros 1 should have been. CF
